They can be categorized generally as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To add an idea<\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To show contrast<\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To give the reason<\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To give the result<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Typically \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Typically \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">but<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Typically \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">because<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Typically \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, as well, too, in addition, furthermore, moreover<\/span><\/i><\/td>\n<td><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, despite, in spite of, on the other hand, although, even though, though, in contrast, while, whereas<\/span><\/i><\/td>\n<td><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As, due to, for this reason, since<\/span><\/i><\/td>\n<td><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, as a result, so that, in order to<\/span><\/i><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h1><b>Conjunctions of time<\/b><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once again as their name suggests, these conjunctions reveal the time relationship between actions. Typical examples include before, after, then, while, since, as soon as, until etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note how some conjunctions can represent idea or time (while and since are the obvious examples), but the context will usually reveal which.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I came here <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">since<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I don\u2019t like the other restaurant. (idea) <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have been here <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">since <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2pm. (time)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h1><b>Correlative conjunctions<\/b><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These conjunctions consist of pairs that must not be adapted. Examples:<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will have <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">either<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the pizza <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the pasta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">neither <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">milk <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nor <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cheese.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h1><b>Coordinating conjunctions<\/b><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the conjunctions listed above are coordinating conjunctions, meaning that they link words or clauses with the same value.
